Film Format Seen? 3D 24 fps
Will view again in a different format? Yes

It is probably unfair to give my review on only one showing esp. when it is probable (though not certain) I'll enjoy the second viewing more than I did the first (or dislike less the parts that spoiled my enjoyment on first viewing) !
My initial reaction was that I will not see this film again ! .. which was not what I was expecting considering all the buzz I was hearing about how much better it was supposed to be than the first film (which I did very much enjoy but with some qualifications).
I was surprised how disengaged I was from the film apart from the Smaug Bilbo encounter and other Bilbo moments. Martin Freeman is ace as Bilbo ! Also Bard was great both in character and story line.
This is not the adaptation I was hoping for ! ... It is more a film based on The Hobbit and having far less Tolkien magic.
Hated the Dwarf/Elf romance(?) esp. when we see her do the Arwen glow routine ...WHAT A JARRING RIP-OFF ..TOTALLY WRONG HEADED REPETITION ! I did like Tauriel's character though and understand why she was created but she is NO ARWEN .... And don't you dare write her as such in the third film to try defend the glow scene !
HATED the extended Smaug scene where the Dwarves enter the fray ...Hate when Peter goes OTT ... I disliked the zillion sculls in the Paths of the Dead episode from ROTK also.
I should state that of the two books the LOTR is much more precious to me than TH even though I very much enjoyed the latter. However I so much wanted the Beorn scene not only to be far longer but far more like the book ...loved that part of the book especially. My hopes were raised when the Beorn actor had stated his scenes were much like the book in an interview though this was before two films became three. Maybe not so bad in the extended ? Here's hoping ! Beorn himself though was great !
Also too much like a video game in the special effects ... POOR ! Hopefully not as bad in 2D which is how I'll watch it the 2nd time .. if I do go ! Sorry ... The acting was great though all round !
