 Rings!

The movie was overall amazing and much better than its predecessor. However, there were a few key things that took me out of it as I was watching. For example:
1. Kili, Tauriel and Legolas' little love triangle. This made Legolas' character, one that was loved and adored in the LOTR films, somewhat unlikeable.
2. Tauriel's character, from the start, was a bit annoying (why would an elf love a dwarf?). The way she acted, similar to Eowyn in LOTR, was upsetting. Yes, we understand you're a girl and can do anything men can do, don't show off. The character was unneeded and only put in, as I've read, because of the lack of female leads. Galadriel is all we need.
3. Special effects. Smaug was amazing - better than expected. However, like everyone else, I'm complaining about the melted gold in Smaug's fight. The way the gold was running along the furnace trails, how it looked on Smaug, and how it exploded in Thror's statue was completely unrealistic-looking and downright silly (although the way it comes off Smaug as he takes flight is beautiful) to watch.

The rest of the movie was fine, no exceptions. Sure, "true" Tolkien fans will complain about events in the film not happening in the book, but I was completely entranced the whole way through (forgetting the love story, of course. Take lessons from Aragorn's and Arwen's, and don't distract from the story!). Great movie!
