 Rings!

If you go in to this expecting something along the scale of the original LOTR, you will leave disappointed. If taken on its own as a good, well acted action movie, you'll leave very satisfied! Unfortunately for me, I wanted it to be exactly like LOTR. Character development isn't nearly as thorough as the originals which makes getting emotionally attached to the characters very difficult. Jackson has also placed way to much faith in cgi. While great when utilized properly (smaug was amazing), many scenes were clearly overdone and looked fake. Live action was one of the things that made the originals so great. So many cool characters in the movie weren't given enough screen time to develop. Beorn for one was a great character who will play a VERY significant role in the third film. He was given maybe 5 minutes on screen! Woefully inadequate. Peter needs to lengthen the hell out of these movies to really develop all the characters fully! Peter poured so much passion and emotion into the 3 originals! I feel as though these movies were just put together to pull in lots of money with lots of fancy action yet little character depth. Not a bad movie don't get me wrong, just not even close to the level of the LOTR trilogy! I've seen it once in the theaters, and do not feel the need to see them again until they are released on blu-ray. Saw each of the originals 3 times in the theater and do an original EE trilogy screening in my theater every year and it is as exciting and moving to me as it was when I first saw them!
