 Rings!

Well, let me just say this: I view the books and the movies as completely different things. So when I review the movie, I review it as a movie, not as a film of Tolkien's book. It's not. It's an adaptation, and fan-fiction. But...I LOVED IT. It was totally brilliant, and Peter Jackson did a very good job overall. I could do with Bilbo having a bit more screen time, yeah. The dragon was so good, they should have made the entire movie about him. And the sequence with Beorn, I think we all agree, could have been a little longer. Yes, the orc chases got old. Yes, occasionally Bilbo heard the spiders without putting the ring on. But...I want to go see it again. Several times. Bilbo, Thorin, Gandalf, Thranduil, Smaug, Beorn, the Master and yes, even Legolas, Tauriel, and Alfrid all made me happy. The barrel sequence: Wow, that was brilliant. To be honest, I don't understand the people who complain that the barrels had no top. It would be excruciatingly boring to watch 13 barrels floating down a river for 20 minutes. And....all right, as with many, I did not thoroughly enjoy the sort-of-love-triangle going on. An elf and a dwarf cannot fall in love. It is biologically impossible in the Middle-Earthian world (save for the very special case of Gimli and Galadriel). I say in the world of Middle Earth, because although this movie is fan-fiction, it still has to follow the basic rules that Tolkien set up. But as I continued to watch, I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. And as I watched, I realized how much I do love the dwarves, and (here there be SPOILERS) in TABA, I will be hard pressed to pack enough tissues, because Thorin, Fili, and Kili are fated to meet their end in the final movie.

Signing off,
