 Rings!

I did not like the movie after the first viewing. It is unfortunate that the material was stretched thin by adding unnecessary screen-time between Tauriel and Kili. I understand how it might make for a tragic end in the final movie, but again it was NOT necessary in my opinion. Crude stuff like Kili's 'trouser' comment and dwarves coming out of the toilet, seemed like making light of Tolkien's material. Then the good parts: Gandalf's High Fells and Dol Guldur scenes, while dramatic, remind the viewers how important unveiling the identity of a Necromancer is to the story even though the book does not discuss it. Bilbo finding his courage and becoming a slightly different Hobbit, his parley with Smaug (brilliantly portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch), and Smaug's final flight are absolute delights. Lee Pace and Luke Evans are amazing actors and it was great seeing them as Thranduil and Bard. And then my second viewing seemed to melt away almost all the previously found flaws (I still don't condone the Tauriel-Kili gimmick). I guess my brain finally wrapped itself around the fact that this is NOT Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', it is Peter Jackson's and if this is how he interpreted it, he does a damn good job of bringing it on-screen.
