I think the main thing most Tolkien purist's will take issue with are the major alteration's from the book. I had no problem with the changes, but you have to keep in mind that the entire book is from bilbo's point of view, I said nothing about the Dwarf's or Gandalf. The incident with the Necromancer was mentioned 1 time in the book, bilbo overheard Gandalf speaking of it in Rivendell on the way back to the Shire, and Azog wasn't in the book at all, but if they filmed the movie exactley like the book, it would be 40% travelling, 25% talking, and only 35% action. Peter Jackson is just a fan, and this is his version. If you take offence to the changes, then make your own. And of course, Legolas is epic as ever, the scene where his arrow went through an Orc's head and came within 1 inch of the screen, in 3D, just......epic. And the barrel scene had everything, action, humor(Bombur), and seriousness. And I love seeing the effects of the ring starting to take hold of Biblo. If you've never read the book, read it first, you will appreciate the movie ALOT more. For example, When I saw the ending of the movie, the entire theater was yelling "AWWWWW"and "WHY THERE"!, and "NOOOOO"!. But this movie is all around fantastic and I think that no matter what kind of fan you are, you wiol enjoy it.
