I adore "The Hobbit" film and fail to understand alot of the bad reviews I've been reading. I think, and I hope, that my understanding of Peter Jackson's vision is that the legendarium of Arda is being set up per it's actual timeline. I found no significant deviations in the story. This sets up the Hobbit as a piece with LOTR and may one day lead to the filming (I hope) of the Silmarillion. The Tale of Turin, story of Beren and Luthien, and the Fall of Numenor I believe are very filmable.
