I'm not sure what all of the negativity is about. I thought it was a great romp based on a simple prequel story to the LOTR trilogy. Sure they changed some things, but I didn't see any deal breakers. Really enjoyed the little moments like the "dwarf plate cleanup" piece and other nods to the novel and the LOTR films. Thought the gollum's cave sequence was worth the price of admission on its own. Pitch perfect IMO. Thought it was a worthy intro and setup to the bigger story to be told in the remaining two films. Very enjoyable.
