Like many people I have been waiting for this movie for a very long time. I went to the midnight showing in costume and had a wonderful time. The movie was amazing. I was very impressed with Martin Freeman's acting as Bilbo as well as Richard Armitage as Thorin. My biggest critique of the movie is with the way several of the dwarves especially Fili and Kili looked and acted like men. Also I thought the goblin caves were a little to architecturally advanced for goblins. Smeagol/Gollum was very interesting and I was very happy with the way they played up the dual characters of his personality. Before the movie came out I had been worried about the addition of the Necromancer story line but as least so far I think that they kept it in the spirit of Tolkien's work. Overall I was very happy and look forward to the next two.
