Great movie! I saw it in 2D. Read the book, saw LOTR extended editions more than once, so I was prepared ;-). I like a lot what I've seen, but also some things I didn't - but that's a footnote only.
What I liked:
+ The beginning of the movie could not have been better.
+ Good pace of the story, not too slow or rushed.
+ I really like the elements which are not directly in the Hobbit, but have been explained in the Appendices of LOTR or in other books from Tolkien. Dwarves, Elfs, the council at Rivendel, a real enrichment and connecting to the LOTR! Great decision to put this all in.
+ Radagast, more play than I initially thought.
+ No singalongs at Rivendel - I hate musicals.
+ Riddles in the Dark.
+ The music, again, superb!
+ The end, going back to the goal: the lonely mountain and Smaug.
+ Overall the changes from the book work great in the movie and didn't bother me at all.
What I did not like:
- Escaping the goblins made me think of escaping in Moria in the FOTR movie, especially on the bridge where the oversized goblin king appearance made me think of the Balrog scene. I found it too much alike.
- If a scene was meant to be funny, it did not make me laugh most of the times - and I have a great sense of humour ;-).
- Stone giants. Liked it in the beginning but it just took too long.
But, like I stated earlier, the dislikes are only a footnote. I hope the DVD release is crammed with extras similar to the LOTR extended editions (will there be one now?).
Looking forward to see it again - and the next movies of course!
