I think the whole 48 frames debate is a red herring. I think this was to make people think less about how much Peter Jackson changed the story, dialogue, characters, character development arcs, etc. from the book.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was an unexpected travesty. Where was the character development found in the book? It was skipped over for new action sequences that had nothing to do with the actual story.
Where was the clever British dialogue that was so charming?
I hope another director remakes The Hobbit someday with a very faithful rendition of it.
