I don't know what happened, either my 3D shades were defective or the projection was off or Jackson's 3D wasn't as good as Cameron's, but I didn't get the 3D experience in the theatre I attended. I'll see it in 2D next time.
Given the large amount of time devoted to chopping up orcs, I suspect that what I viewed was the Boxing Day adolescent cut. Not enough footage devoted to Imladris AND no conversation between Bilbo and Estel. Does ANYBODY remember who Estel is/was? Jackson should have checked Aragorn's DOB.
I liked Tom, Bert and William, but I missed the talking eagles.
Richard Armitage 's performance as Thorin?
Bilbo's retelling of the history of Erebor and of Thror/Thrain/Thorin
