Pete Jackson got this first part of the Hobbit right - the proper mix of gravitas and whimsy appropriate to this very strange children's book. The movie in 2D 24fps was gourgous - scenes that could have been difficult to film or obnoxious actually worked. I loved the Dwarves' breakfast - a proper mix of silliness and threat. That Jackson actually got the songs to work was amazing - he even got the incredibly lame 'invention of golf joke' to work. Only downside, to many battles - that is Jackson's weakness.Gollum was perfect.Love Radaghast (Oh to imagine what could have been done with Bombadil in the LOTR if Jackson had only dared)A five start movie.
