There was so much build up and I was looking forward to the movie so much that I thought I was certain to be disappointed. I was wrong. The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey more than lived up to my expectations. I feel the character and story tweaks compliment the original Tolkien text and flesh out the adventure nicely. I plan to see it again in a theatre and plan to buy the Blu-ray as soon as it is released. This IS a family movie and is far less scary than the real world children live in today.
