Although certain scenes (stone giants and repeated long falls) were rather annoying, on the whole this was a fabulous addition to the saga of Middle-Earth. The acting was great, lines were often taken direct from the book, and although there are plot changes, they are for the most part done very well. The 48 FPS 3D is very much worth it, and looks incredible. The action with Thorin near the end might be a problem in future installments (some lines are borrowed from the end, and the end of the book might be a less powerful scene on film for it), but I will certainly be seeing the next two, and will find out if they can maintain this standard or improve upon it.
