Peter Jackson in rumoured $23m NY penthouse buy

Peter Jackson It may not be only movie maker Peter Jackson’s King Kong who has a head for heights in New York – the movie magnate himself is believed to have bought a $23 million penthouse in Manhattan. Under the headline One Penthouse Duplex to Rule Them All, the New York Observer today reported that the names of Jackson’s staff appeared in records tracking the purchase. “The filmmaker’s executive assistant Matthew Dravitzki, his New Zealand-based attorney Michael Stephens and his Hollywood power lawyer Peter Nelson are all listed in city records on twin penthouse purchases in Tribeca,” the newspaper said. “It seems likely that Mr Jackson has some new New York real estate.” Peter Jackson in rumoured $23m NY penthouse buy

Ian McKellen: Gays Still in Jeopardy

ianmckellen.jpg From The Advocate: British actor Sir Ian McKellen spoke out on behalf of gay victims of hate crimes Monday, reported Reuters U.K. “There are deaths in public places on the grounds that the victim is gay,” McKellen told Reuters, adding, “My own death threats have declined considerably. I think I’ve become rather boring now to the public at large on this particular issue so I’m thought to be unremarkable.” A founding member of the British LGBT rights advocacy group Stonewall, McKellen is better known for his role as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he will be taking up again in The Hobbit, filming for which begins next year.

Gandalf Defeated the Spanish Armada

Spanish ArmadaOK, this is either really sad … or Peter Jackson did one heck of a job giving “Lord Of The Rings” even more of a historical feel that he intended. An article in the Newcastle (UK) Journal talks about the complaints on how little British kids know about the world is a bit overblown, but then they said:

It may be slightly worrying that in one recent poll fewer than half those questioned knew that Sir Francis Drake defeated the Spanish Armada. And, okay, it’s frankly terrifying that 6% of those questioned thought that this great historical victory was down to the wizard Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

So I suppose the Corsairs sailing up the Anduin had a Spanish feel to them. [Read More]

Christopher Lee offers his voice for Smaug… won’t go back to NZ.

Christopher Lee

In a bittersweet note, forummer DiveTwin reports this note that appeared in Cinematical:

Lee isn’t interested in filming in New Zealand again because it is simply too far away, for too long of a time. You can hear the tiredness in his voice — and perhaps a bit of regret too.
That doesn’t mean Lee isn’t interested in being in The Hobbit at all, however! He’ll appear in the film as long as he can stay in London, and there’s a character he’s quite keen to play. Or rather, voice.

Cinematical gives a link to the original Rushprint.no video interview in which Mr. Lee talks about Return of the King, Saruman not appearing in The Hobbit, him not returning to New Zealand and his offer to voice Smaug. [Cinematical] [Rushprint.no]
