climates: Winner of the prestigious Fipresci Award at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, CLIMATES is internationally acclaimed writer-director Nuri Bilge Ceylan s sublime follow-up to his Cannes multi-award winner DISTANT. Beautifully drawn and meticulously observed, the film vividly recalls the cinema of Italian master Michelangelo Antonioni with its poetic use of landscape and the incisive, exquisitely visual rendering of loneliness, loss and the often-elusive nature of happiness. During a sweltering summer vacation on the Aegean coast, the relationship between middle-aged professor Isa (played by Ceylan himself) and his younger, television producer girlfriend Bahar (the luminous Ebru Ceylan, Ceylan s real-life wife) brutally implodes. Back in Istanbul that fall, Isa rekindles a torrid affair with a previous lover. But when he learns that Bahar has left the city for a job in the snowy East, he follows her there to win her back. Boasting subtly powerful performances, heart-stoppingly stunning cinematography (Ceylan s first work in high definition) and densely textured sound design, CLIMATES is the Turkish filmmaker s most gorgeous rumination yet on the fragility and complexity of human relationships.

Colossus of Rhodes: A Greek military hero named Darios visits his uncle in Rhodes in the year 280 BC. Rhodes has just finished constructing an enormous colossus of Apollo to guard its harbor and is planning an alliance with Phoenicia which would be hostile to Greece. Darios flirts with the beautiful Diala, daughter of the statue's mastermind, while becoming involved with a group of rebels headed by Peliocles. These rebels seek to overthrow the tyrannical King Serse as does Serse's evil second-in-command, Thar. The rebels' revolt seems to fail, with Peliocles and his men being captured and forced to provide amusement in the local arena, but an earthquake eventually upsets, not only the Colossus in the harbor, but the balance of power in Rhodes as well.

Cult Camp Classics 1 - Sci-Fi Thrillers: Three feature-length commentaries accompany the sci-fi thrillers in Cult Camp Classics, Vol. 1. Two of the commentaries are hosted by Tom Weaver, a noted authority on sci-fi and horror films whose historical acumen is more casual than academic: While sharing the commentary on Queen of Outer Space with the film's titular star Laurie Mitchell (who became a mainstay at fan conventions at Weaver's invitation), Weaver fails to explain how the production came to use props and costumes from the classic Forbidden Planet, and that's a glaring oversight. He compensates as an amiable interviewer with the equally good-natured Mitchell, and it's a treat to hear them enthusiastically reading unfilmed scenes from the film's original screenplay. For the commentary on Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, Weaver is joined by the film's comely costar Yvette Vickers (another regular at sci-fi conventions), and their combined anecdotes provide an adequate oral history of this camp-classic production. Star Wars veterans and special-effects masters Dennis Muren and Phil Tippett provide the loose-and-lazy commentary on The Giant Behemoth, which consists mostly of Muren making sarcastic jokes about the film's glacial pacing. It's hardly the authoritative commentary that some fans might've hoped for, but Muren and Tippett are well-versed in special-effects history (Muren even owns the original stop-motion Behemoth creature model), and they share an infectious enthusiasm for the films that inspired them to excel in their profession.

Cult Camp Classics 2 - Women in Peril: The Big Cube: Squares will be cubed! Peace-and-love lovebirds (including George Chakiris) think a trippy little potion will drive widow Lana Turner loco... and leave them to collect her millions. "For camp followers only." --Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide Caged: Hope Emerson is 6'2" of bad road as the penitentiary matron who terrorizes inmate Eleanor Parker. 3 Oscar nominations (really) for this reform-minded iron-bar-motel classic! "One of the best (and most harrowing) of the women's prison pictures." --Michael Barson, The Illustrated Who's Who of Hollywood Directors Trog: A prehistoric cave dweller emerges. He's the scientific find of the age, says anthropologist Joan Crawford. He's a fearsome killer, say others. People... can't we all get along?

Cult Camp Classics 3 - Terrorized Travelers: Hot Rods to Hell: "These kids have nowhere to go, and they want to get there at 150 miles an hour." Dana Andrews and Jeanne Crain are straight-arrow parents as thei cult-movie rubber meets the road. Skyjacker: There's been a change in flight plans. Pilot Charlton Heston has a sky full of trouble when a deranged passenger brandishes a grenade. John Guillermin (The Towering Inferno) directs. Zero Hour!: Can anyone fly this crate? A Dedicated Life: Kazuo Hara, who shocked the Japanese establishment with The Emperor s Naked Army Marches On and Goodbye CP, focuses on controversial writer Mitsuharu Inoue in this forceful documentary. Originally intending to spend years on the project, Hara soon realized that Inoue was dying from cancer and adjusted his plan. The result is a moving film that captures the essence of the contentious writer s life--and the significance of his death. In his writings and in his personal biography, Inoue played along the border between truth and fiction, an element that Hara exposes by sifting through the layers of reality and fabrication surrounding the old man s life. A DEDICATED LIFE is not only a tribute to a courageous man, but it also reveals Hara s own dedication to outsiders, mavericks, and nonconformists who rebel against the limits of normal society.

Drive in Double Feature - Search and Destroy / The Glove: Hate and revenge go together like hand in glove. In THE GLOVE, a down-on-his luck bounty hunter (John Saxon of BLACK CHRISTMAS) buys a one way ticket to Hell when he tries to capture a vengeful ex-con (Rosey Grier) out to punish an order of corrupt prison guards with the torture device they used on him: a riot glove made of 5 lbs. of lead and steel. Co-starring Joanna Cassidy (BLADE RUNNER) and a cast of veteran Hollywood actors, including Keenan Wynn (PIRANHA), Joan Blondell (NIGHTMARE ALLEY) and Aldo Ray). In SEARCH AND DESTROY, ex-GIs Perry King (CLASS OF 1984) and Don Stroud (PERDITA DURANGO) fight for their lives as members of their elite combat unit are picked off one by one by the embittered soldier they left behind enemy lines. George Kennedy (AIRPORT) and Tisa Farrow (ZOMBIE) are also featured in this edgy action thriller from director William Fruet (DEATH WEEKEND).

Film School: This IFC Original Series created by Oscar nominee Nanette Burstein (The Kid Stays In The Picture, On The Ropes) follows three NYU film students as they try to direct an award-winning film and launch their careers. Former Peace Corps volunteer Alrick prepares a politically charged allegory, sculptor Leah readies her emotionally raw autobiographical project, and Vincenzo applies his experience as an opera director in the making of his urban fable. Over the course of ten weeks, these students assemble crews, deal with difficult locations, clash with the police, face funding crunches, and encounter personal adversity. As the deadline for NYU's First Run Festival approaches, will their films be completed in time? Can their films bring them acclaim and lead to future work?

The Films of Hilary Harris: Four Visionary Short Films: Documentary filmmaker Hilary Harris, one of the pioneers of time-lapse photography, creates unforgettable portraits of New York City in four groundbreaking short films. "Organism" (1975), "9 Variations" (1966), "Highway" (1958) and "Longhorn" (1951), all newly restored for this anthology, illustrate the unique vision of a photographer whose stated purpose was to "lift people out of their preconceptions."

Frankenstein Vs Baragon: During WWII, a human heart taken from a certain lab in Europe (Dr. Frankenstein’s) is kept in a Japanese lab. When it gets exposed to the radiation of the bombing of Hiroshima, the heart grows in size, mutates and sprouts appendages, and eventually grows into a complete body and escapes. Later, a feral boy with a certain physical deformity (a large head with a flat top) is captured by scientists who refer to the boy as Frankenstein. The creature grows to the height of 20 feet, escapes again, fights police and army, and is practically indestructible. Later, a reptilian monster goes on a rampage. Eventually the Frankenstein creature and the reptile face off in a terrible battle.

Giant Behemoth: Radioactive waste dumped in the Atlantic Ocean awakens a prehistoric monster than can project electric shocks and radioactive beams. Now, those rules are about to be broken when they agree to see each other on the outside. Tony Award® winner Roger Rees (THE PRESTIGE, THE WEST WING) and Geno Lechner (SCHINDLER'S LIST, IMMORTAL BELOVED) star in this starkly beautiful Award-winning film that brilliantly illuminates the dark world of S&M, fetishized eroticism, and the disturbing consequences of blurring the line between fantasy and reality.

Gomer Pyle Usmc:Second Season: Gomer Pyle was a sweet but not too smart Marine from Mayberry, North Carolina who was stationed at Camp Henderson near Los Angeles, California. Gomer's innocence, naivete and low-key demeanor often got him into trouble, most frequently at the hands of his loud-mouthed superior, Sgt. Carter. Duke, Frankie, Lester and Larry were some of Gomer's pals and fellow enlisted men at Camp Henderson, and Lou Anne Poovie was his sometimes girlfriend who worked as a singer at the Blue Bird Cafe, where Gomer and the boys often hung out.

The Last Hunter: War is Hell... and to carry out his top secret mission, one soldier will make a deal with the Devil. Italian frightmaster Antonio Margheriti (Cannibal Apocalypse) turned to the horrors of war for this explosive action film set near the end of the Vietnam conflict. Following the grisly suicide of his shellshocked friend, Captain Harry Morris (David Warbeck, The Beyond) accepts one final mission: to go behind enemy lines and destroy a Viet Cong radio tower broadcasting anti-American propaganda to US troops. Aided by a ragtag squadron of commandos and shadowed by a beautiful photojournalist (Tisa Farrow, Zombie), Morris carries out his search and destroy mission with extreme prejudice, straight into the heart of darkness. Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection Vol. 11: Book your return flight to the Satellite of Love and join Joel, Mike and the 'bots for another fearful foursome of flops in this collection of episodes from the Peabody Award-winning series Mystery Science Theater 3000. First up on Volume 11's menu of muck is Season Two's Ring of Terror, with Joel, Crow and Tom Servo riffing furiously on a half-baked story of fraternity pranks gone wrong; it's partnered with another interminable episode of the Bela Lugosi serial The Phantom Creeps. Next is Season Four's The Indestructible Man, in which Joel performs a frightening imitation of the movie's star, Lon Chaney Jr.; an episode of The Undersea Kingdom is also celebrated with a parade that goes predictably awry. Season Four's Tormented features headless ghosts, a guilt-ridden Richard Carlson, and Joel stuck in a ventilation shaft, plus a day-rescuing round of happy thoughts. And last but not least is Season Ten's Horrors of Spider Island, a German-made monster movie about dancers on a deserted island and a giant spider than transforms their manager into a hideous creature; Mike also undergoes a man-to-spider switcheroo after getting trapped in the 'bots' homemade spider web. For veteran MiSTies and pop culture fanatics, it doesn't get funnier than this. Extras include theatrical trailers for all of the films save Ring of Terror; a brief interview with Tormented director Bert I. Gordon, his daughter Susan, and star Joseph Turkel, and wrap-arounds from the syndicated Mystery Science Hour, with Mike Nelson as an obsequious Jack Perkins, are also included. However, the best supplement is the second MST3K Jukebox, which compiles some of the show's funniest and most memorable musical numbers, including "Sidehackin',"Joel and the 'bots' garage-rock tribute to The Sidehackers and the incredible "Patrick Swayze Christmas" from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Shooter: A novel by the Washington Post's Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic Stephen Hunter gives the movie a logical spine, even if the premise itself is the stuff of conspiracy theorists. Wahlberg gets support from Michael Pena, as a skeptical FBI agent; Kate Mara, as a trustworthy widow; and Ned Beatty, trailing along memories of Network, as a supremely cynical Senator. Along with the well-executed action sequences (the previously unreliable director Antoine Fuqua gets it in gear here), the movie includes a few potshots at the Bush administration. No, that doesn't put Shooter at the level of The Parallax View or All the President's Men, but it provides some tang along with the flying bullets.

Sins of the Mother: A chilling, true story of a psychopath created by a mother’s destructive love. Ruth Coe is a domineering, manipulative mother whose emotionally dependent son, Kevin, is a violent serial rapist. Their bizarre relationship is marked by overtones of incest and by harsh, dissonant chords of loathing and despair.

Skyjacked: A crazed Vietnam vet bomber hijacks a Boeing 707 in this disaster film filled with the usual early '70s stereotypes, and demands to be taken to Russia.

Celebrate your love of the Italian Western with clips from over 600 Italian cult classic, plus insightful interviews with Clint Eastwood, composer Ennio Morricone, and many others.

Who Can Kill a Child?: On a vacation away from their family, Tom (Lewis Fiander, of DR. JEKYLL & SISTER HYDE) and his pregnant wife Evelyn (FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD’s Prunella Ransome) sail to an island off the coast of Spain that seems deserted… until its children emerge from the shadows with the blood of their parents on their hands… and hatred in their hearts for every adult. Unflinchingly horrific and unapologetically downbeat, Narciso Ibáńez Serrador’s WHO CAN KILL A CHILD? was heavily censored for its American release in 1976 as ISLAND OF THE DAMNED. Dark Sky Films is proud to present the complete film, uncut and uncensored, for its long overdue American DVD debut.

Zero Hour: A routine flight turns into a major emergency as passengers and crew succumb to food poisoning - is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane? If that sounds vaguely familiar, it's because 'Airplane' was a send-up of this forerunner of the 1970s disaster movie..
