DVD Tuesday: Dreamgirls, The Hitcher & More! - Xoanon @ 10:15 PST
Alice Sweet Alice: When ten-year-old Karen (Brooke Shields) is killed in church on the occasion of her first communion, her seemingly innocent older sister Alice (Paula Sheppard) becomes the prime suspect. Matters become complicated as more of Alice's family members are attacked, along with residents of her apartment building. Can a twelve-year-old girl be capable of such mayhem, or is someone else with a vicious plan destroying her family? ALICE SWEET ALICE features a surprising amount of bloodletting along with a heavy dose of Catholic iconography. This was the first (albeit brief) screen appearance for Shields. The film is alternately known as Communion and Holy Terror. Special Features Include Commentary by Director Alfred Sole & Film Editor Edward Salier and Photo Gallery. Presented in Letterboxed format (Aspect Ratio 1.85:1)

Alone in Love: Alone In Love is the story of a divorced couple who are still struggling to let go of each other. The drama series follows the couple, Eun Ho and Dong Jin, two ordinary people - not particularly attractive or successful - as they meet and fall in love. The couple get married but divorce after an unforeseen tragedy casts a shadow over their relationship. The bond between them, however, is too strong and they are unable to leave each other alone, persistently invading each other's life, offering support, comfort, even matchmaking for the other. The two seem destined to be together, but are unwilling to face their past and confront the tragedy they have spent three years trying to forget. Big screen superstars Son Ye-Jin (April Snow, The Art Of Seduction) and Gam Woo-Sung (King And The Clown) star as Eun Ho and Dong Jin, alongside Lee Jin Wook and Oh Yoon Ah (Old Miss Diary) as their new potential love interests. Alone in Love received the Best Drama and Best Music Awards at the 33rd Korean Broadcasting Awards.

Alpha Dog: They grew up together in the suburbs of LA, living their own version of the American dream, with every day a blur of partying and looking for the next thrill. Johnny (Emile Hirsch, Lords of Dogtown) is the leader in their sordid world of drugs, greed, power and privilege. But when he is double-crossed by another dealer, things quickly begin to spiral out of control, and an impulsive kidnapping leads to a shocking conclusion. Justin Timberlake (Edison), Sharon Stone (Bobby) and Bruce Willis (Lucky Number Slevin) co-star in this powerful and controversial film.

The Best of the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet? The title alone is amusingly absurd. Unless your idea of adventure includes picnics, hay rides, recreational horseback riding, and square dances, the word hardly applies. As revealed in this four-disc, 24-episode boxed set (the first official Ozzie and Harriet release on DVD) that cherry-picks some of the best moments from the entire 1952-66 run, this was a show so mild it made Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood look like The Wire--and that was a big part of its considerable charm. Bandleader Ozzie, singer Harriet (nee Hilliard), and sons David and Ricky had already been on the radio for several years before the television show appeared; there had also been a feature film, Here Come the Nelsons (with Rock Hudson). The TV series, likely the only one ever to feature an entire family portraying themselves, continued where the radio show had left off, with Ozzie (who directed, produced, and co-wrote the vast majority of the episodes) as the well-meaning but sometimes confused, bumbling patriarch, Harriet his sensible but gentle foil, David the dutiful, self-effacing older son, and Ricky the mischievous youngster. Things naturally changed over the next decade and a half, as the boys grew up, went to college, and got married, but the dynamic remained essentially the same. Ozzie and Harriet was nothing if not wholesome. The parents were decent, honest folks; never dictatorial or authoritarian, they guided their sons but gave them enough space to make their own decisions, and David and Ricky were as clean-cut as they come. Of course, there was also Ricky's emergence as a singing star. Broadcast in 1957, "Ricky, the Drummer" was his musical debut (he sings and plays the skins with surprising skill), and the boxed set does a decent job of charting his growth from a somewhat wooden 16-year-old into a legitimate musician with a great band (featuring James Burton on guitar) and undeniable charisma; Rick Nelson was no Elvis Presley, but he had far more substance than other teen idols of the era. Fourteen years is a long run for any TV show (only The Simpsons has surpassed it in the sitcom category), and by the time The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet started airing episodes in color in the '65-66 season, it had run out steam. Still, this is a classic bit of Americana that will find favor with old and new viewers alike. Bonus features include commentary on four episodes by David (the only living member from the original show) and Sam (son of Rick) Nelson, along with a 1949 radio broadcast, home movies, and more.

The Good, the Bad & the Beautiful Pack 2 (Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Complete Second Season / Melrose Place - The Complete Second Season): Originally based around the lives of a group of high school students living in the wealthy Beverly Hills neighborhood, then later moving on to their college days as they got older. Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Second Season: One of the definitive, landmark shows of the 1990s, 90210 quickly became an important fixture on the FOX and in the popular discourse of adolescents and young adults. The second season’s main characters, Dylan, Kelly, Donna, Steve, David, Andrea and twins Brandon and Brenda all attended West Beverly Hills High School. Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their parents, transplants from Minneapolis were the stable nuclear family with strong values; their home was a safe haven for the whole gang and the center of much of the drama. The show dealt with a steady stream of love triangles and other romantic entanglements and occasionally touched on more serious issues as well.

Black Rose: In the time of the crusades, a Saxon youth is forced to run away from England. He goes with his loyal retainer who brings along a British long bow. The two go all the way to China where they become involved in intrigues in the court of Kubla Kahn.

Delivery: Everybody orders pizza delivery. But when your pizza arrives, who is it that you're opening your door to? Is it a nice kid looking to make a few bucks...or is it Monty? Montgomery Goth (Matt Nelson) is a gentle loner with a traumatic past, trying to put the pieces of his life back together while working as a delivery boy for a local pizza place. He has no friends, no life, and no prospects for the future, until one day he meets the girl of his dreams, Bibi (Tara Cardinal), and life seems to finally change for the better. But a series of events will test Montgomery's sanity and awaken the demons inside of him, unleashing a murderous rampage that will keep everyone from ordering delivery for a very long, long time...

Diggers: If Diner had taken place in clam country, it might have looked like Diggers. The Bicentennial is in effect, Jaws tops the box office, and amateur photographer Hunt (Paul Rudd) and friends carry on family tradition as clam diggers. Frankie (Ken Marino) has a wife (Sarah Paulson) and kids. Hunt, Jack (Ron Eldard), and Cons (Josh Hamilton) don't. They work hard, they party hard (Cons also serves as the local dealer). Things are about to change, though, as a corporation called South Shell threatens their Long Island livelihood by limiting the area in which they ply their trade. Then, Hunt loses his father, who was out clamming when his heart gave out. Now it's just him, his dispirited buddies, his diminishing career, and his newly divorced sister, Gina (Maura Tierney). Clearly, the time has come to make some tough decisions. Fortunately, Diggers isn't downbeat, but nor is it a comedy, despite the participation of part-time comedians, like Rudd (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Tierney (NewsRadio). There's a little humor mixed in with the drama, as in Hunt's flirtation with Manhattan visitor Zoe (Lauren Ambrose), but it's mostly a fond look back at a vanishing way of life. Directed by Katherine Dieckmann (A Good Baby) and written by Marino (MTV's The State), an actual digger's son, it's the kind of small-scale indie that could easily get overlooked, but deserves to be seen--not because it offers something startlingly original, but because it offers something heartfelt and unexpectedly moving.

She changes the heads of a poetical guy and a boxer. She puts the spiritual head on the stong body and the idiot head on the spiritual body. And each head (then) changes its body.
