More about Calendar, Today in Middle-earth LOTR/Kong Visual Director Art Show in SeattleKirsten sends this along: We thought you and other ringers might want to know about an art exhibit we have coming up with Jeremy Bennett (Visual Director on LOTR and King Kong). It opens on Friday October 10th 6-9pm (Jeremy will be at the opening!) here in Seattle. He will be exhibiting seven new paintings based off the work he did on Mordor. The exhibit will be at the Roq La Rue Gallery (2312 2nd Ave Seattle WA 98121), visit www.roqlarue.com for more info or call (206)374-8977. Here is his art statement: “For me conceptualizing shots in Mordor was a double edged sword, it was at an intense time in the production schedule and there was no room for error. It was fairly stressful to say the least but It seemed that for every problem that needed solving, wonderfully creative solutions were being offered up by all involved…”

Wanna See HD FOTR with the London Philharmonic?Jason writes: I just read in today’s Sunday Times here in the UK, that on April 14th and 15th 2009 the Royal Albert Hall will be showing FOTR in high def while the London Philharmonic will be playing the music to it. At the moment tickets are available to the times subscribers then tickets go on sale after October 14th, I just ordered mine and they are £40 each. The RAH website does not have tickets available yet, but as soon as they come online we’ll post the link! The course will run three times during the 2008-2009 academic year, starting on 6 October 2008, 19 January 2009 and 27 April 2009 respectively.The students will be able to explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth from their home, in their own time. They will examine the vast mythology behind The Lord of the Rings and gain a thorough knowledge of Tolkien’s fiction and its creation by focusing on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin.
