NEW YORK, NY (October 10, 2005) – From the vaults of their considerable collection of cartoon classics, Classic Media is releasing King Kong: The Animated Series Volumes 1 and 2 on DVD. Each monster DVD contains six half-hour episodes that originally aired on ABC. Unseen for decades, this 1966 cult classic is set cause a rumble in the jungle and arrives just as the new King Kong movie hits the Cineplex this holiday season! King Kong: The Animated Series will be available on November 15 for $12.98 SRP each.

Get ready for a perfectly unpolished, pre-Pixar production of this positively prehistoric ape performance. For the first time ever, fans will have the opportunity to watch the animated King Kong monkey around on DVD. In this series from Rankin/Bass (the same team that brought us Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman), world-renown scientist Dr. Bond and his children Bobby and Susan discover King Kong on Mondo Island in the Java Sea. The quirky family quickly befriends the giant ape. Together, they fight prehistoric creatures and foil the plans of notorious villains, including the diabolical Dr. Who -- who has terrible plans for King Kong.

King Kong: The Animated Series also includes “Tom From T.H.U.M.B.” episodes. When a shrink ray accidentally zaps secret agents Tom and his sidekick Swinging Jack, the duo ends up 4-inches tall. As a result of their new smaller size, Tom and Jack are called into service by T.H.U.M.B. (Tiny Humans Underground Military Bureau) where they are armed with an arsenal of top-secret weapons to fight crime.

This is the first animated series produced entirely in Japan for American TV and debuted on ABC as a one-hour prime-time special on September 6, 1966. Five half-hour King Kong episodes are presented in each DVD, along with one Tom of T.H.U.M.B segment.
