U.K. Trilogy Tuesday Details    Compiled 10/17/03

Below you will find the sum total of information sent to us by UK Ringers concerning Trilogy Tuesday showings in the United Kingdom. Unlike the U.S. showings, at this time we haven't a list of participating theaters to work from.

We invite readers with CONCRETE information to
mail us with specific details. For the sake of our inbox, sanity, and the speed in which we can provide information to all UK readers, please refrain from e-mailing with questions. ANY information we have will be posted on this page. Thank you very much!

Please check back frequently, as we expect this information to grow/change over the coming days.

  • Adrian writes: (10/6) I'd like to share with you a reply from Warner Village Cinemas (a major nationwide chain) in the UK concerning the possibility of seeing the extended editions of the FOTR and TT, followed by the ROTK:

"The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" will be available for us to show in December, and we are planning, at some cinemas, to do so. However specific plans, whether we show the films as a Lord of the Rings marathon leading up to "The Return of the King" or show the two previous films over a period of time has yet to be decided.

We are planning on having tickets on sale by the end of October and will be contacting all our on line members with details of any screenings planned.

I hope this helps, if you do require any further assistance please be advised that Customer Services are available on 08702 40 60 20 by pressing 0 who will be happy to assist.

So, this is from the horse's mouth - if I hear anything more, I'll let you know. Cheers for now, and keep up the good work.

  • David writes: (10/8) I have news from Entertainment, the supplier of Film Reels in Britain that they will indeed have Extended Edition showings of Lord Of The Rings in London and throughout the United Kingdom, the places which will be showing it are:

-- UGC Cardiff [START A LINE PARTY]
-- UGC Brighton [START A LINE PARTY]
-- UGC Glasgow [JOIN THIS LINE PARTY]
-- Odeon West End (London - NOT Leicester Square) [START A LINE PARTY]

There are 16 cinemas doing the Marathon in UK, and only these were disclosed, but the vast majority are going to be UGC cinemas at the moment with current information.

  • Sorne writes: (10/9) I rang UCI cinemas today to inquire whether they had any plans to show the Trilogy. The operator said that as far as she knew they didn't but that they were always open to suggestions from customers and she would pass on the idea, which she thought was a good one. I informed her that Warner were planning to do it, and also that there might be extended versions available. She said she would pass all this information on. Now I know this might not mean much, but if more people were to ring and ask then they might take note! The number is 08 700 10 20 30 and you need go through a couple of menus to get to the operator.

  • Paul writes: (10/9) Have just spoken to the Odeon cinema in the UK and they say that the Odeon West End will be playing both extended editions on the 16th. Tickets are not yet on sale and the lady I spoke to could not confirm it playing in any other cinema other than Odeon west end. Odeon West End is NOT the Odeon Leicester Square(even though it is in Leicester Square), it's the one just on the other side of the square, thought I should clarify this as many people get them confused K 3 Cinemas by the same company in the same square, its all very confusing!

  • Andy writes: (10/11) I've been in touch with the main cinema chains in the UK again today, so far I've only got details for UCI -

"The Return of The King is scheduled for release on Wednesday December 17th. Unfortunately we do not have any concrete details on the first showings, however we think that we will be showing a double bill of the extended versions of the first two films on Tuesday 16th December with the possibility of an early morning screening on the 17th."

I think the comment concerning 'details on the first showings' relates to my questions regarding the showing (in the USA) of the EE's in the 2 weeks prior to the release of ROTK. So, it looks like we may get both 'Trilogy Tuesday' and the EE editions at selected UCI cinemas, rather than just the theatrical re-releases as first thought.

  • antichaos writes: (10/12) I cornered the manager of my local Odeon in Guildford, UK, and asked him about Trilogy Tuesday et al. He said that they do have plans to show FOTR and TT Theatrical editions in the first few weeks of December, and there is a possibility of a marathon event too, but nothing is confirmed yet. It seems like they don't have any extended editions to show, so it's pretty much up to local cinema managers to organise or not, depending on demand.

  • AnonUKFan writes: (10/13) I contacted my local chain of multiplexes about trilogy tuesday, their reply is below. I don't think you have any details about Cineworld in the UK yet. "We will be showing the two previous Lord Of The Ring films at most of our cinemas. At this stage there are plans to only show the extended versions at Cineworld Bristol. All of this has yet to be confirmed. When this is done we will be advertising on the website and in local press.

  • Raw_Bean writes: (10/13) I'm a UK Ringer who was desperate for news of any possible trilogy Tuesday events here in the UK. It suddenly occurred to me to get the news myself, so I emailed every UK cinema chain I could find on the internet, and I thought I'd pass on every positive response to yourselves at your wonderful website, so you could make the information available to your UK visitors. :)

Odeon West End will be doing a double bill of the special extended editions of Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers on the day before Return of the King is released. It is possible that we will play these 2 titles so that the second film will finish just before midnight and then Odeon Leicester Square could play a minute past midnight screening of the third film. This would allow people to see the 3 films in a row as though it were a triple bill, although this is subject to licensing being agreed.

    On a seperate note, 3 Odeon's will be playing these 2 special extended editions on the weeks running up to Return of The King. see below;

5th - 11th December - Fellowship of the Ring (extended edition) 12th - 15th December - The Two Towers (extended edition) 16th December - Both films will play as a double-bill 17th December - Return of the King Released

This will happen in 3 Odeon Cinemas.

Odeon West End (Return of the King will open in the Odeon Leicester Square on 17th Dec), Odeon Newcastle, Odeon Southampton

Seperate to this again, there will be a large number of Odeons that will play a double bill of Fellowship and Two Towers on 16th December (these will be the original theatrical versions of the 2 films that were seen in the cinema first time round). The cinemas involved are still being agreed but I will send you a copy of this list once it is confirmed.

  • Neil writes: (10/14) I emailed the UGC cinema in the UK a while back asking if they were showing the FoTR and TTT EEs. The reply seems promising if a little vague! Good news at least that it's coming to a major UK cinema.
